Initiatives for change include “clear learning goals” where standards set the stage. This was the mission of the Common Core Standards. The authors also state that teachers should be involved in making these standards and learning goals. From statements by educators and policy makers when they were released it is clear that they believe these standards were created void of their particular region or district involvement. But really these were meant to be launching points for educators. They were not written to be utilized as written in stone. They were written to begin the conversation of effective learning goals. It is a good thing that states and schools sat down and did the work of creating standards to represent what they valued most. The conflict started the process that needed to occur.
